I USE 1/2 PEELED LEMON, 4 KALE LEAVES (SOMETIMES VARIED W/SPINACH/), HANDFUL OF PARSLEY, HANDFUL OF BLUEBERRIES, 1 SMALL APPLE OR 1 SMALL PEAR. SOMETIMES I ADD A SMALL PIECE OF GINGER ROOT, OR, A PINCH OF CAYENNE PEPPER. I'LL ALSO ADD A MAJOOLI (SP?) DATE TO OFFSET THE GREEN TASTE.

This is sounding very yummy, guys. I am going to try making a succulent salad later in the morning....put 1/2 of it in a bowl for supper and throw the other 1/2 in the blender and swirl it up for lunch - with a sprinkle of (home-made) salad dressing. Yum. * adding 1/4 of an avacado or a 1/4 of almonds/pecans would probably keep me going until supper time. Tip: If you want to keep salad fresh for a while longer (the length will be determined by the "liquidity" of the ingredients - tomatoes/cucumber...), fold a clean tea towel and place in the bottom of a roomy bowel. Put your salad on top of this. Then, cover with another tea towel and refrigerate. If you know you want to keep the salad for an extra day - add the juicier veggies just before serving. Here's to trying new things! ;D palm heart

Another smoothie:
2 bananas 2 kiwi 2 cups fresh pineapple 1 cup green grapes 1/2 cup water
Blend and drink.
It is green alright; but not from any green vegetables...the kiwi and grapes do it... The skins from the grapes and the kiwi (I personally don't peel them) give a texture that you can chew, for those (like me) who like something to sink the teeth into.

I have green smoothies every day, and have learnt that they are pretty unpredicatble - you can't tell what they are going to be like at all. As a result, I just try to change the combo every day with some surprising results! Today, I had wheatgrass, (sprouted from 25grams wheat) a third of a cucumber and three oranges. It was unexpectedly delightful! I'm quite fond of using broccoli as well as kale, spinach and parsley. I find really really green tastes suit something sweet but sharp - so put a slice of lemon in with sweet ones like apple. Though usually a total banana fiend I don't like them that much with greens, except really mild greens like lettuce. My current favourite mix though is orange and sharan fruits, it has an incredible texture and is a perfect balance of sweet and sharp. I often put water in my smoothies to get them to be properly liquid but sometimes use carrot juice for my orange and sharan fruit delight, is just lovely.

Green smoothies are AWSOME, I start every day with one.... Clean (vita mix, or majic bullet, or blender) Good handful of raw Baby Spinach, or mixed greens, or romaine, whatever you have on hand, a quick shot of flax seed oil, 1 banana, 1/2 cup of fresh strawberries, (frozen will do-no sweetner)fresh juice, I LOVE grapefruit juice that I squeeze myself, (if you want it more green add BARLEANS greens, my favorite) I also add some ChlorOxygen (helps the blood) just a quick dropper full. and I am ready to GO GO GO all morning and thensome.... I DO LOVE MY SMOOTHIES, and I regret the day I do not make one...... and it is not many. Pollybee buzzin

I put this smoothie in another link, but thought it would go here, too.
Here is a smoothie I made tonight. I had a need for something sweet and resisted the urge to get some Ben and Jerry's...
1) Four bananas 2) 1/2 to 2/3 cup raisins 3) 1/2 cup Soy milk 4) 1 TBSP Pure Maple Syrup
Blend and put in the freezer for a couple of hours...it was like eating soft ice cream...and was it G-O-O-D!! The maple syrup might not have been necessary (I couldn't taste it, much, anyway).

Two of the posts above just reminded me of a smoothie I haven't had in years and had completely forgotten about. I used to use this to get me off the classic old dairy thickshakes made with ice cream. It served it's purpose very well.
1 cup almond milk 1-3 Tbsp honey(blended into the milk before adding the frozen bananas) 1-2 frozen bananas 1 Tbsp carob powder
Blend, and gobble up immediately!!

In answer to your question about the sea salt, Belovedom, I am not really sure if it was exactly 1 1/2 tsp. or not. Anymore, I don't really measure the seasonings. I just shake in a little dab here and there. I actually don't use salt in my foods or my salads, but when I make a plain green smoothie, I add some , because they are thick!!! But I love them because they make me feel so good.
I will have to try the lemon in the next one because it sounds pretty good. Thanks for the advice. I'll let you know how what I think about it.

I forgot, I will often add a few ice cubes in it... but that's only because it's kind of hot here in Costa Rica. I wouldn't do this in Canada most of the time.

I dont know how you make a new topic ....but, this thread is my favorite so I will use it. There is a new TV station it is on my Dish network. Not sure if it is on cable. It is called Veria on Dish and the station is 9575. They have programs on Veg cooking (today they made a wonderful cashew cheese), alternative health care and over all new age thinking. I would really like to see this kind of programing continue...please check it out if you can.

Yep, dandelion leaves can be really bitter as you say. I use about 3 or 4 young leaves which are less bitter than the tougher older ones. Also I add a bit more fruit to the smoothie to help hide the taste. Hope this helps.
I had the same problem with rocket as you and it took me ages to control it. I now only grow it in a container!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

smoothies: Either we use water or baby coconut water as a base with an apple or pear blended, then add coconut and/or coconut butter, hemp oil, raw cacao, mesquite, warming spices(ginger root, cinamon, cardamom pods, jalapeno or other chilli), plus any of a variety of greens (dandelion, epinard, various lettuces- depends on season and what we grow in the kitchen- lots of herbs like mint and basil), sprouts, and variety of other fruit (favourites are bananas, pineapples, cherries, raspberries, any berries actually, kiwi, papaya).
We're in a cold climate, and if there's nothing available fresh, we have resorted to soaking sun-dried fruit and occaisionally use frozen berries.
We travel across the border frequently, often on a tight schedule, and there's a problem with bringing fruits across, so use Vitamineral Green, and Synergy - just add water and tahini and shake- for a pick-me-up. Not really a blender drink, but a superfood green powder shake. We do bring smoothies as well, and shop for produce when there's time and can eat it before crossing borders again. We also add these to our smoothies at home, especially in the winter months when there's less produce available.
Okay, time to make one right now!

Hi rono, yes, that helps thanks. Also someone left me a message saying to pick the leaves before they flower too. Do you do that too? From memory I think I did pick older leaves. I'd like to try dandelion again; I've heard it's an awesome tonic. I recently pulled one out of my garden that had leaves well over a foot long!!
The rocket problem...(and I should feel guilty for writing this!), our house is for sale...hope the new owners like rocket ;D I think I will try growing it in a container too.
